The inside facts of Milk of Magnesia for use on your skin

Oily skin can be problematic in many ways and milk of magnesia is said to be beneficial for this skin type. Read on to know more about the same.

If you have read my post on Milk of Magnesia (see here) you might be wondering,
"So how does this thing actually work, and how am I supposed to apply it?"

Well firstly let me share with you how I apply it to my skin.

How to apply Milk of Magnesia on your face:

1. Wash your face with whatever you use! Make sure you apply a good moisturizer after because this can dry your face out.

2. Next, shake the bottle. If you don’t shake it, it’ll come out looking like white watery stuff. So shake it up good!

3. Use a cotton ball or pad or your finger (I like using my finger, you can wash your hands after)
pour about a quarter size out and close the container.

4. Use your index finger and dip it into the M.O.M. that you poured onto your cotton ball or pad or just your finger, and wipe it on one cheek. Dip your finger in it again, do another cheek, then your forehead, chin, and nose. Rub it in really good all over your face (minus your eyelids!!)

5. Take a few moments and let it dry. Once it’s dry – you might see white marks on your face. No worries! Just dust the residue off your face!

6. Once you’re done applying the M.O.M. – I suggest you use a liquid or mousse foundation. If you don’t intend on wearing make up, take a TINY bit of face powder and rub that into your skin just so your face won’t feel so dried out from the M.O.M. or look too white.

And that’s it! WAH-LAH! No more oily skin! No more face sweat! Okay- well maybe a little… but it DEFINITELY make’s a difference.

You can also you as a Face Mask

Milk of Magnesia as a Face Mask

After a long day of work, you may be ready to relax and sooth your skin with a face mask.
If you don't have the real thing, Milk of Magnesia can give similar results.  Apply a fairly thick layer all over your face without blending it out and allowing it to dry for 15-20 minutes, then rinsing with cool water. Afterwards, your face should feel a bit tight, but your skin should look even.  Your pores should be lighter as well.

NOW: The reality behind this product

I am no doctor, but I highly recommend that if you have normal to dry skin you should stay far, far away from milk of magnesia, even if you sometimes suffer from bad makeup transfer or blotchy-face. I could actually see this stuff doing some minor damage to those not cursed with trigger-happy sebaceous glands.
Also, make sure to get the original, unflavored version. I’m sure you might love to smell like strawberry or chocolate laxatives, but for some reason your skin does not need the added flavor!

Anyhow, the REASON why Milk of Magnesia works for OILY skin is because:
The magnesium hydroxide in this product is alkaline in nature and this helps in neutralizing the excess acid produced by the skin. It is this acid that is primarily responsible for the blemishes in the oily skin. The excess oil produced by the skin is absorbed by the sodium hypochlorite, which is also found to disinfect the skin. Even the blackheads and pores are said to be reduced with use of milk of magnesia. In short, it is said to be beneficial for those with oily skin.
One thing you MUST remember though, too much of anything is not good for you!
Milk of Magnesia is highly alkaline...so you do not want to destroy the acidity level of your facial skin...so keeping that in mind you do not want to overuse.  Also ensure you actually have OILY SKIN before considering this...and try to do other hydrating face masks at least once a week!
